I Am Here

I Am Here

I am here
when you think it is impossible
to keep smiling through your tears.
I am here
when you feel you are too weak
to face up to all your fears.
I am here
when you need a shoulder
just to lean on for awhile.
I am standing right beside you
I am your friend and brother
sister, father, mother
I am the lover of your heart and soul.
Lean on me
I will share the yoke of sorrow
I will cry with you, beloved child
and when the sorrow passes
I will dry your tears.
I am here
when the pain of your infirmity
is beyond what you can bear.
I will be there
you can count on me
when in the darkness
you lay shuttering in fear.
I am here
for though you cannot see me
nor feel my arms enfold
and hold you near,
do not lose courage
I am here.
I give you this my promise
from now to eternity my dear.
I will never leave you
nor forsake you
As we live and breathe
in the Spirit of the Most High
who holds us gently in his hands,
reach out and touch me
with your tender heart and soul,
for I am ever near
Yes beloved...,
I am here.

This poem has a two fold meaning for me. On one level it is a poetic voicing of Christ's promise to believers, given when he ascended into heaven. He promised us he would never leave us nor forsake us, that he would send a comforter in the person of the Holy Spirit who would indwell us until he returned in triumph one day. On the other level, it is an expression of my yearning to be more Christ like toward the people God has blessed to me in this life. My promise to my loved ones whomever they may be, that I will always be there whether in the flesh or in the spirit with God's help I will never forsake that sacred "agape" love.
Thank you my friends for reading and God bless.
