A Mother’s Love
Within the confines of a mother’s heart
There lives the surety of a mother’s love.
For no matter how innumerable her mistakes
that love holds true
and never lets go.
For in God’s eyes
her affection is beheld, with gratitude,
in the purity of God’s holy grace.
No matter how dark the present seems
nor how black her former deeds perceived
that precious grace holds sway.
Anchored to the rock of his salvation
forgiven sins washed clean
a mother learns acceptance
through the trials of life unforeseen.
She learns patience and forgiveness
at her Savior’s nail scarred feet.
In the surety of a mother’s love
there will always be
a haven of sweet rest
where forgiveness is expressed
no matter what has passed between.
In the surety of a mother’s love
does the picture of how God loves us dwell.
No rancor and no condemnation shows
where sin would have us bound.
For in our undeserved sinful state
came Jesus to love us
and shed upon us his merciful grace.
This is how a mother saved
from such a cruel fate
loves her children to the very end of her all days.
In the surety of a mother’s love
she holds this truth unwavering,
without forgiveness
there is no faith.

Faith, hope and love…,
But the greatest of these is love.
A mother’s love never…, never depends on circumstance. It is a constant that abides outside of the ups and downs, the mountains and the dark valleys of our lives. In that, it is the perfect earthly picture of God’s love for us. As a mother, I know this first hand, as a sinner saved by grace, I know this first hand and as a daughter I have experienced my mother’s constant stubborn love first hand. I will forever be grateful for the gift of loving and being loved as both a mother, as a daughter.
To say that mother's and our children cannot hurt one another would not be within the realm of reality. We are human and in our very fallible human state we can hurt even those we love. But and this is big, at least for me, how can I say I am a sinner saved by God's grace, washed in the blood of his forgiveness and not exercise the gift of forgiveness towards others, particularly, my loved ones...? I cannot. This poem came to me today. It was a gift the Lord gave to comfort this mother's heart and I felt led to share it is all.
God bless,
Paulette
